Awwwwww.
Grandmothers are often referred to as 'Granny', 'Gran' or 'Nana', but this changes often as every child has a different way of pronouncing names when first learning to talk.
Like many children, Prince William and Prince Harry called their grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, 'Granny' when growing up although it turns out one of them had a rather different take on the name.
As a toddler, William hadn't quite mastered how to say Granny and instead, the Queen became 'Gary'.
In an article in
The Daily Mail, former columnist Richard Kay recalled how on one occasion at Kensington Palace, the little boy became upset and started screaming for 'Gary'.

A guest went to help and as the Queen was comforting her grandson, he asked her who 'Gary' was.
The Queen explained that she was Gary as William hadn't learned how to say Granny yet and that might just be the sweetest royal anecdote we've heard to date.
In case you weren't aware, Prince William himself was known by a
different name while at college, none other than Steve.
Apparently, he went by this moniker so he wouldn't be treated differently by his friends and over time, the name stuck.
Speaking of names, William and his wife Kate, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are expecting their third child this month and we can't wait to see what the little one will be called (and what possible nicknames the name might involve).
