Christy Dignam’s daughter Kiera has thanked the public for the waves of support since her father passed away on June 13th.
Singer Kiera praised the public for being so kind and supportive since the Aslan singer died following a 10-year battle with cancer.
In a video posted on her Facebook page, she said she was nervous about her dad’s funeral because she didn’t want to share such a special day with the public.
“I just wanted to thank you for the support we’ve been shown over the last week and a half. For the cards, messages, stories, and sandwiches, and time people have given us.
“I didn’t want to share that day with anybody. I wanted it to be just for us.
She explained, “I felt that I shared him my whole life and I didn’t want that day to be about everybody else.”
Kiera continued, “We had to respect the public and respect the fans by letting everybody know that he had passed.
She said her family went into airplane mode following Christy’s passing.
Kiera explained that her family didn’t know about the public’s moving response to her father’s passing until the family’s funeral director told them.
After hearing about the public’s heartache, Kiera realised it was right to involve them in her dad’s funeral.
“I knew I was going to have to share him for one more day and I’m glad I did. If I stuck to my guns, we would’ve missed what we had on Saturday.
“Words can never describe what we experienced on Saturday.”
Kiera said she hopes she can repay the fans one day when the time is right.
Christy Dignam passed away on June 13th, 2023. He is survived by his wife Kathryn, daughter Kiera and grandchildren Cian, Ava, and Jake.
