We love a celebrity who has some heart and we have to say, we were definitely impressed when we heard about what Christian Bale got up to yesterday.

The Batman actor paid a surprise visit to victims of last week’s Colorado shooting in order to express how sorry he was over what happened and personally thank medical staff for their help.

The Telegraph reports that Christian Bale was in Europe promoting the new Batman film: The Dark Knight Rises when a gunman, 24 year old James Holmes, opened fire on a crowd of people who were attending a midnight screening of the film in Aurora, Colorado.

12 people lost their lives, including a 6 year old child, and 58 people were wounded in the attack. 20 of the 58 people are being treated in the Medical Centre of Aurora and some of them are in a critical condition.

During his visit to the Medical Centre, Christian, accompanied by his wife Sibi, personally spoke to the victims and posed for pictures with them and with the medical staff.

Christian shocked medical staff when he turned up unannounced.

He also made the time to visit a makeshift memorial to the victims near the cinema. According to reports, the actor walked past the 12 crosses which were put up to remember the 12 victims who lost their lives, without anyone realising who he was.

“The patients were really happy to meet Bale. They are obviously big fans of his movies. They wanted to see Batman. It was good for the patients. We hope it was therapeutic for them, and all the staff really appreciated him coming,” said Bill Voloch, the interim president of the hospital.

Janie Bowman-Hayes, assistant vice president of surgical services at sister hospital the Swedish Medical Centre, was attending a lunch at the Medical Centre of Aurora when Christian Bale decided to visit.

“He just said he wanted to come to thank all of us because he had been thinking about this. He knows the whole world has been thinking about this. He took it upon himself to come and thank us,” she said.

“He did this out of his heart, and you could really tell. It was so sincere. It was just, ‘thank you,’” she added.

Last week, Christian Bale issued a statement offering his condolences to those affected by the shooting.

“Words cannot express the horror that I feel,” he said.

“I cannot begin to truly understand the pain and grief of the victims and their loved ones, but my heart goes out to them,” he added.
