Actor Chris O’Dowd is to be awarded the freedom of his native Roscommon.
According to Shannonside News, the Bridesmaids star will be honoured at a reception in his Boyle later this month in recognition of his success in his acting career.
Having shot to fame in Channel 4 comedy The IT Crowd, O’Dowd has gone on to forge a career in Hollywood and returned to Roscommon to film Sky One series Moone Boy.
The actor took to Twitter to share his joy at the announcement.

It had previously been reported in 2012 that the actor would be bestowed with the title but it is now believed that he will accept the honour at a ceremony on October 22nd.
