Charlie Bird can ‘no longer’ dress himself amid MND battle

Charlie Bird has shared an update regarding his health, revealing he has taken a “turn for the worst”.

The broadcaster was diagnosed with motor neurone disease in 2021 and in recent weeks, his health has been deteriorating much faster.

The 73-year-old has now revealed that he can no longer do the basic task of dressing himself without the help of his wife Claire.

“My MND has taken a turn for the worst. I can no longer dress myself without help from Claire,” he shared on social media.

“But I am still mobile and I have a number of projects to help Samaritans.

“As long as I have a breath in my body I am going to continue to extend the hand of friendship to help people.”

Taking to the comments of his update, Charlie was given an outpouring of support from followers, all sending him their best wishes.

One person wrote: “You are a remarkable human being Charlie. I marvel at your strength, courage and ability to think of others, as you battle this horrendous illness. Thinking of you and Claire as you continue on this journey that you have embraced with dignity and courage.”

Another said: “Your positivity is remarkable. Wishing you continued strength and courage as you extend your hand of friendship to help others.”

A third wrote: “Your formidable spirit gives inspiration and comfort to so many of us Charlie- sending you the best vibes always.”

While a fourth noted: “Sending you huge love & strength Charlie & of course to Claire too. You’re an inspirational team…keep on keeping on.”
