The Midday star, 35, had surgery to remove the lump just a week a before she was due to become producer of the show and admits that she opted for a local anaesthetic because she wanted to get back to work as quickly as possible.
Speaking to The Irish Sun, Elaine says “My Dad died of liposarcome – a malignant version of what I had. I had a tumour but it was benign, it was about the size of a cup. In the back of my head the experience was quite scary, I might have put my head in the sand somewhat.”

But it seems there is no stopping Elaine and the dedicated star reveals that she’s only had one sick day this year when she “literally couldn’t get out of bed”, possibly because she is now at the helm of TV3’s hit show. “I wanted more editorial input into Midday and what better way than to become boss of the whole thing?”
