BBC broadcaster Stuart Hall has pleaded guilty to a total of 14 charges of indecently assaulting girls as young as nine years old, the BBC reports.

The 83-year-old broadcasting veteran admitted to the crimes, involving 13 victims, which occurred between the years 1967 and 1985.

A further three charges of indecent assault and one of rape have been left to lie on the court file.

Hall admitted to the offences last month but it could not be reported on due to reporting restrictions.

RTÉ reports that despite pleading innocent previously, Hall calmly repeated the word “guilty” as the charges were put to him in court.

Hall once read a statement to reporters in which he labelled the claims as “pernicious, callous, cruel and above all spurious”.

He also said he had endured “a living nightmare” and but for his “very loving family” may have considered taking his own life.

Hall’s lawyer spoke outside the court and said he wished to apologise to his victims.

He said: “He is not a man easily moved to self pity but he is all too aware that his disgrace is complete.”

Hall has been a familiar voice in British broadcasting for 50 years and was awarded an OBE in 2012.
