Amy says: Chris Hemsworth
When Chris Hemsworth left Summer Bay in Home & Away, a little part of me died. Yes, watching him run along the beach in his lifeguard shorts had quickly become one of the highlights of my day.
Thankfully, it wasn’t long before Chris resurfaced again. And when he made his comeback he had not only reinvented himself into a Hollywood star, he had also buffed up majorly and looked amazing. Fact.
Chris took up the role of a Norse God in the Marvel Studios films Thor and The Avengers and he won himself a new wave of dedicated followers (mostly female followers, but we doubt Chris is complaining). Ladies, let’s face it. You know you wouldn’t say no to a bit of the Hemsworth if he propositioned you.
When it comes to The Avengers in a fight between Iron Man and Thor, Iron Man would probably win – he has the fancy iron suit and the swish technology, while Thor only has a hammer and some lightning bolts.
But in the realms of real life hotness, Chris beats Robert Downey Junior hands down. Every. Single. Time.
Why? Well, have you seen The Avengers? Eh, it’s fairly obvious from watching that film that Mr Hemsworth is an absolute beast of a man. Ladies, just check out the body on him – the man is built! Those arms, those muscles – I feel a swoon coming on!
In comparison to the God-like perfection of Chris, poor RDJ really shows his age. Sorry Rob, but you know it’s true.
And while RDJ has the whole oddly-attractive bad boy swagg going on in real life, I have to admit that Chris’ sweet-talking, calm, lovely attitude definitely sways me more.
There’s an old saying that states ‘everyone loves a bad boy’ and while that may be true, if every single nice guy in the world looked like Chris Hemsworth, it wouldn’t be long before that bad boy attraction disappeared completely.
Michell says: Robert Downey Jr.
Hot back in Home & Away and tantalising by the time he became Thor, there’s no denying Chris Hemsworth is a fine thing. But when it comes to a hotness head-to-head with his Avengers co-star Robert Downey Junior? Please. There is no comparison. RDJ might as well stand for Ride Du Jour.
While identikit Summer Bay style beach bums like Hemsworth will come and go, Robert Downey Junior has only gotten better as the years go by. In 1992 Chris had yet to hit double digits in age, while Robert was winning plaudits for his turn as silent movie star Charlie Chaplin. Since then he’s burned up the screen in action movies, romantic comedies and cerebral dramas. He’s got much more depth than himbo Hemsworth, who’s yet to play a meaty role instead of a meathead one. Point one to RDJ.
A real-life bad boy, the nineties marked a dark period for Robert. Women across the world wanted to be the one he’d turn too, but waiting in the wings for him was none other than Sarah Jessica Parker. It didn’t work out, but they still speak very fondly of each other. Loving RDJ gives you something in common with SJP. We like this. How she moved on to Matthew Broderick we’ll never know. He can’t even be summed up neatly in three letters!
Ally Mc Beal. If you watched it, you’ll know. If you didn’t – run out and buy the box set. Now. You’ll thank me after. As well as breaking our hearts along with Ally’s he serenaded us on the soundtrack. We played it on repeat and just dreamed.
Nowadays Robert Downey Jr. is beloved as an action hero that ladies swoon over and men want to be. Iron Man is the coolest character in The Avengers line-up, and the real star of the show. My colleague thinks he’s showing his age. I think that’s almost fifty years worth of fine up on that big screen, and he’s a hero Hemsworth could only ever hope to be.
