‘Basically we were all wagons’ – Kate Moss reveals her Irish nickname

With a questionable origin story.

A clip of Kate Moss is doing the rounds on Irish Twitter and beyond, in which she shares the story behind her 'Irish' nickname of wagon. In the interview with British Vogue, the supermodel smiles knowingly (or so she thinks) as she recalls her time in Ireland:

We were in Ireland and we got a little bit tipsy at a wedding, and I think in Irish "wagon" is "drunk".

So, basically we were all wagons. Because during that time we were all doing shows, drinking a lot of champagne and calling each other wagon. 

By "we", she means herself and Naomi Campbell by the way. That's right, Naomi's a wagon too. As you'd expect, the comments section is rife with people looking to find out whoever it was that convinced two of the most famous supermodels in the world that 'wagon' means drunk. One person commented: "someone’s done kate dirty there". Another said "I wanna know who called them wagons and told them that's what it meant". Others are all too familiar with Irish peoples affinity for playing the odd trick on non-Irish speakers - for example, convincing someone that "leithreas" is a beautiful name for a baby girl. Definitely up there with Nigel Farage being convinced to declare "up the ra" and the lad who convinced a group of Americans we don't have Tuesdays in Ireland while away on his J1.
