Anne Hathaway recently showed that it’s never too late to make amends, even years after an awkward encounter.
Hathaway, widely known for her role as Princess Mia Thermopolis in The Princess Diaries, reached out to journalist Kjersti Flaa with a heartfelt apology following the resurfacing of a less-than-smooth interview from years ago.
Flaa, who gained attention earlier for a tense interview with Blake Lively – that almost led her to reconsider her career – posted on October 7th about another challenging interview, this time with Hathaway.
Flaa shared a clip from their interview while Hathaway was promoting Les Misérables.
In the video, Flaa tried to lighten the mood by suggesting they sing their questions and answers, to which Hathaway responded:
“Well, I won’t be doing that, but you’re more than welcome to sing.”

The moment might have passed into obscurity, but just a day after Flaa’s post, Hathaway took the unexpected step of reaching out to the journalist with a personal apology through her publicist.
Flaa, clearly moved, shared her surprise in a follow-up post. “I have to say, I was pretty shocked,” she admitted. “I didn’t think she would reach out at all.”
According to Flaa, Hathaway explained in a lengthy email the personal challenges she was facing during the time of the interview, and expressed her regret for how the interview unfolded.
“She apologised for giving me a bad interview, essentially,” Flaa shared. “It was so touching, just talking about it makes me almost teary-eyed.”
Flaa described Hathaway’s apology as “amazing,” noting how deeply it affected her.
To top it off, Hathaway even extended an invitation for Flaa to interview her for her upcoming film, slated for release in May – a gesture that turned a once uncomfortable experience into a moment of genuine connection.
