Amanda Seyfried has revealed she turned down a “big” superhero role – as she “didn’t want to be green for six months out of every year.”
During a recent interview with MTV International, she confessed that she had been approached before to join a big superhero franchise – but turned it down “and they haven’t called me back”.
She explained:
“It was a big one. I don’t regret it. That’s the truth because I didn’t want to be [painted] green for six months out of every year.
“Do you know what I mean? Beautiful, beautiful stories they tell through superheroes and my daughter is really obsessed with superheroes now. Part of me wishes I had done it, and part of me is like, ‘I had a life to live!'”
She doesn’t specify which character – or even which superhero franchise – it was. However, the reference to being “green” seems to be a nod to Guardians of the Galaxy’s Gamora.
Zoe Saldana was ultimately cast as Gamora, and has played the role in four MCU movies across the last few years.
For the first time she played Gamora in 2014’s Guardians of the Galaxy, the makeup and hair process is said to have taken around five hours a day.
That was brought down to four hours for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, before eventually being reduced (again) to three hours.

Earlier this year, the 40-year-old shared a time-lapse video showing lengthy process required to get in (and out of) character.
“Hair up! What goes on, must come off,” she wrote. “Adios Gamora…for now at least! Ha.”
