While most former reality TV contestants would do anything for a bit of the limelight, Aiden Grimshaw, of X-Factor fame, has said that he’s actually happy he doesn’t get recognised anymore.
The Irish Independent reports that Aiden, who first appeared on the X-Factor two years ago, is currently in the process of forging a successful music career by himself and he admits that he no longer feels a desperate need to be recognised – he’s even gotten rid of his trademark quiff hairstyle that made him so popular in the first place.
“I don’t get recognised any more. I did, after I’d been on X-Factor and we’d all been on the tour. I was 18 when I was on the show, and part of me loved getting spotted, to the point where I’d be disappointed if people didn’t notice me and I’d find myself putting my best clothes on at 10 in the morning to go and get a bacon butty,” said Aiden.
“That was just stupid, and a pain, so I stopped with all that, and the quiff was cut off. Now no one bats an eyelid,” he added.
So what has Aiden been up to since he appeared on the X-Factor? Well, he’s been busy performing in various indie venues and he’s been interviewed by a few select music magazines, who normally wouldn’t waste their time on an X-Factor contestant.
“Part of it is deliberate, I suppose, just to make sure everyone knows there’s a difference between what I did on X-Factor and what I do now. You need to be clear, I think,” said Aiden, speaking about his choice of venues.
“But it works both ways. When we sent samplers of my album out to journalists, it was my idea not to have a name on them because it’s a natural thing for people to pre-judge the former contestants, expect them to sound a certain way and write them off before they’ve hear them,” he added.
Aiden’s new album is coming out next week – will you be buying it to have a listen?
