Vampire Diaries actress Shannon Guess Richardson has been jailed for 18 years for an attempt to poison President Barack Obama.
The star, who also appeared alongside Sandra Bullock in The Blind Side, was arrested last July for sending letters spiked with lethal toxin ricin to Obama, then-New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Mark Glaze, Director of Mayors Against Illegal Guns.
While Richardson had originally blamed the crime on her husband, she subsequently admitted her guilt and signed a plea document detailing how she had ordered castor beans from the Internet and learnt how to turn them into ricin before sending the letter.
The one posted to President Obama read “what’s in this letter is nothing compared to what I’ve got in store for you Mr President”, before going on to add “you will have to kill me and my family before you get my guns. Anyone wants to come to my house will get shot in the face”.
