Catherine Zeta-Jones has checked into a health care facility for treatment for her bipolar II disorder according to reports today.

The actress is set to embark on a 30-day program to help with her condition which is known to cause extreme mood swings as well as depression.

Catherine first spoke out about her condition in 2011.

Her rep Cece York told People magazine: “Catherine has proactively checked into a health care facility… she is committed to periodic care in order to manage her health in an optimum manner.”

A source also revealed that the Chicago star was always planning to do this so that doctors could monitor her medication: “This has always been part of the plan. She would manage her health. She is vigilant about it.”

Catherine, who is said to be between projects at the moment, first sought help for her condition back in 2011 and has always been open about her condition.

At the time she said: “If my revelation of having bipolar II has encouraged one person to seek help, the it is worth it. There is no need to suffer silently and there is no shame in seeking help.”
