Actor Emile Hirsch has been charged with aggravated assault after allegedly putting a woman in a chokehold at a nightclub in Utah on January 25th. He was also charged with intoxication.
According to the police, it is being claimed that he put an executive of Paramount Pictures in a chokehold at Tao Nightclub. He was there to promote Ten Thousand Saints as part of the Sundance Film Festival.
Daniele Bernfeld alleges in the court documents that Emile, who she says looked drunk at the time, approached her and asked her why she looked “so tough.” He then said she was a “rich kid who should not be” at the event.
It is claimed that he then grabbed her but she pushed him away. After disappearing to a table with friends, he is said to have returned and put her in a chokehold after approaching her from behind. He allegedly dragged her across a table and onto the floor.
Two bystanders managed to pull Hirsch off Bernfeld who claims she may have blacked out momentarily during the incident.
After the incident Hirsch told police that he had three to four drinks. He also said that he didn’t know the woman but said he was having an argument with her. He is due in court on March 16th and could face up to five years in prison, and a $5,000 fine, if convicted.
It has since been reported that Hirsch checked into rehab following the incident.
