Wuthering Heights is a classic for a reason and seeing the story be reimagined can be exciting, but only when the casting is right.
There's so much pressure to find the perfect Cathy and Heathcliff and fans are not happy with the latest decision.
Emerald Fennell confirmed the disappointing news this week and the backlash online is rife.
And many fans believe she has failed with the actors she has chosen to play the iconic fictional characters.
Earlier this week, Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi were confirmed as the leads, but fans have been slating the decision.
Many agreed that Elordi was the wrong choice for Heathcliff and called out Fennell for casting a white actor.
One wrote: "Heathcliff is described as a dark-skinned brown man in the book and a major plot point is that he was subjected to racist abuse by his adopted family. but yeah sure jacob elordi is perfect!"
Another said: "No hate to margot robbie and jacob elordi but neither of them have enough Psychologically Tortured vibes to play cathy and heathcliff. like a wuthering heights adaptation simply needs actors who are weirder."
A third added: "So what we’ve learned is that emerald fennell has not read wuthering heights."
There's no doubt both Robbie and Elordi are incredibly talented actors, but they simply don't feel like the right fit for those roles.
We can only hope the adaptation proves us wrong, but as a massive Wuthering Heights fan, I'm not feeling hopeful.

Emily Brontë, Wuthering Heights: Heathcliff was ‘as dark almost as if it came from the devil’; ‘a dark skinned gipsy; as a child, he wishes he’d had ‘light hair and a fair skin’, aware of his radicalisation.
