The Brazilian technique has actually been used in beauty circles since the 1960s, and involves using a lit candle stick to literally burn split ends off your hair. Burning off the split end then opens the hair follicle and helps it retain moisture. Speaking to Marie Claire, hair stylist Fernanda Lacerda said the treatment involved separating the hair into small sections, twisting it so that dead, split cuticles stick out and then using a candle stick, glide it up and down each section to singe off the breakage.
The burning is then followed up with a deep conditioning treatment, restoring some of the vitamins, proteins and keratin to the tired hair.
