When it comes to foundation, there are a number of things that can go wrong.

What looks like the perfect shade under bright shop lighting can look completely different when you get outside into daylight.

Another tip that you should bear in mind when you’re foundation shopping is getting the right texture for your skin because all too often, people opt for the wrong type of foundation for their skin.

This means choosing a matte which can flake on dry skin or a luminous moisturising base which only serves to add shine to oily skin.

Speaking to Allure, L’Oréal make-up artist Sir John said that this is a common mistake that’s easily made.

“If someone has dry skin, a matte foundation will make the skin look dehydrated.

“And oftentimes people who are oily use powder foundation because they think they’re doing their oily skin a service, when a water-based foundation” said the man responsible for beautifying Beyoncé and Joan Smalls to name but a few.

Simply put, research your skin’s texture before foundation shopping to ensure you get value for money AND the perfect base for your skin.
