We have a few basic requirements when it comes to any make up look. Flawless skin, lightweight formulas and long-lasting products. This week, we're putting a trio of products from Irish beauty brand Fuschia Makeup to the test... could they be the Holy Trinity?!
The Beauty Brand Award-winning homegrown brand Fushcia is the brainchild of Gillian Moore, and began life via the first store in Drogheda's Scoth Hall shopping centre in 2005. Four years later, the in-house brand was launched to spas and salons across the country. A second store opened in Swords in 2013, and the next move was on to pharmacy shelves. Since its incarnation, Fuschia has been steadily picking up devoted makeup fans along the way, and is a confirmed blogger favourite.
The Beauty Break-though
Let's go straight to the Perfect Skin foundation. Point of difference number one - the six shades were designed with Irish complexions in mind. A great start! The formula is designed to hydrate and plump up the skin, mostly thanks to its hero ingredient of avocado oil. It's also paraben-free and fragrance free, which is good news for those of us prone to irritations.
Velvet Veil is a best-seller for the company. It's light, it's silky and it helps your makeup stay put. There's very little else to say - it's a winner.
Fuschia's Setting Spray is an interesting one. Many women have never even tried a setting spray, then there's a small cohort who couldn't possibly go without one. Think of it as hairspray for the face, (but not sticky!).
The Beauty Budget
Perfect Skin Foundation RRP €28.00
Velvet Veil Primer (RRP €15.00)
Setting Spray (RRP €20)
They Say: Skin Perfecting Foundation is a light-weight formula that lays down on the skin helping to form a protective barrier against the elements while at the same time smoothing out the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, keeping skin hydrated all day.
We Say: A good foundation is the cornerstone of any makeup bag - and the experience of "good" is entirely subjective, depending on the coverage you favour, your own skin type and skin tone and many, many other factors. We trialled Perfect Skin in #4, Warm Cream, for one week on combination skin that's slightly prone to dehydration. It absolutely is light-weight, but offers a fair amount of coverage too. It's easily applied and lasted all day without needing a reapplication.
Velvet Veil is a permanent addition to our bag and a dupe for some very similar but more expensive brands (you know exactly what we mean!). We're still not converts to the idea of Setting Spray on a daily basis but we used it before a Saturday night on the town and we're pretty sure the need for a fix-up ran much later into the night than usual... which means more time on the dance floor!
