It’s a classic scent that ladies love, and it really does makes men in particular weak at the knees… but would you shell out to smell like a new car?
More Chassis number 5 than Chanel no 5, do you want a whiff of you to conjure up a dream of the open road?
Well the brains at Ford Spain are willing to bet that at least some ladies do. They’ve launched a fragrance, ‘Olor a Neuvo’, (smells new), that they claim captures that new car smell.
It’s all based around a clever campaign in which Ford are promising all the used cars they sell will be infused with this new car scent, but there is an actual bottle of the perfume on the market too.
We thought it had to be the strangest idea for a perfume we’d ever heard of… but as the old saying goes ‘there’s nowt so queer as folk’ and on closer inspection we came across these other unusual fragrances…
Macbook Pro
Just like Carrie Bradshaw and Elle Woods, we’re big fans of the Mac. The computer that is, (although we’re quite fond of the classic coat too). But would ladies like to smell like a MacBook Pro? We’re not so sure. Should the need to turn ourselves into geek-magnet arise though, we’ll be getting on to Air Aroma, the company responsible for creating the MacBook scent. Unfortunately, it was a special commission for a technology exhibition, and isn’t currently on shelves – don’t all cry at once please! And the informal moniker for the fragrance? Stink Different. Of course.
Funeral Home
On a list of all the things in the world we could smell like, rated by order of those we’d like to – a funeral home would be pretty far down said list. But ‘one man’s meat’ and all that… Demeter Fragrance Library brings you ‘Funeral Home’, a scent that, judging by online reviews, the Goths are only loving. Billed as a blend of classic white flowers like lilies, carnations and chrysanthemums. So far, so good – but then they mention the ‘hint of oriental carpet and mahogany’. Not for the faint-hearted we imagine.
Cannabis
Talk about an unmistakable scent! Cannabis Santal Eau de Parfum will have you smelling like the cafes of Amsterdam with this ‘woodsy’ fragrance. We’re not sure that we’d want to smell like the sniffer dog at the airports dream come true, but many surely must, as this is only one of a multiple of hashish fragrances available for purchase. Santal claim that their particular offering captures the ‘raw sensuality of cannabis’. Ok then…
Play-Doh
Confession time – this one we might actually buy! Remember that intoxicating scent you would drink in every time you opened a new tub of squeezy, squishy Play Doh? Before you ruined it by mixing all the colours and then trampled bits of it in to the carpet, only to get threated with the wooden spoon… Created by Demeter in 2006 to mark Play-Doh’s 50th anniversary, Hasbro claim the perfume is meant for ‘highly-creative people, who seek a whimsical scent reminiscent of our childhood’. Sold!
Old Books
Another one that we at Her.ie really like the sound of. If you get more excited by an old bookshop than you do a department store and you feel like Matilda every time you step inside a library, then chances are you’ll just love this bookish beauty from CB I Hate Perfume. ‘In The Library’ is a concoction made to mimic the musty smells of paper, leather, wood and stories. Said to be inspired by an old first-edition book that creator Christopher Brosius came across in London one day, we nerdy girls think smelling like a library is a novel way to get noticed.
