Protect Your Luscious Locks of Hair on Holidays

Sun, sea and chlorine-filled pools are all recipes for holiday hair disasters. Here's our advice when it comes to protecting your hair on holiday!

Her

If you are lucky enough to be jetting off to somewhere beautiful and exotic this summer we at Her.ie are green with envy. Oh, how we would love to be lying on a scorching beach with a margarita in one hand and a chunky book in the other. Sigh!

But just like your skin, it is so important not to forget about caring for your luscious Irish locks that sure aren’t used to this much attention from Mr Sun. Salty sea water and chlorine-filled pools are also a recipe for holiday hair-disasters.  And we know you want to look glowing in all those sunny photos you’ll put up on Facebook to make everybody jealous. So here are our tips and tricks for perfect holiday hair!

Shampoo!

Salt water and the pool really wreak havoc with your hair. If it has been exposed to chlorine and the sea it is important to rinse and shampoo every evening to limit damage to your mane.  We love Aussie Miracle Moist Shampoo which helps rehydrate hair damaged by sun, sea, sand and chlorine. Available in Tesco (€3.75/300mls) this shampoo is extremely affordable and a suitcase necessity!

Condition!

It’s a good idea to deeply condition your hair for a few weeks before you depart on your trip. This will make sure that your hair will be holiday-healthy and less likely to be damaged by the elements.  Don’t flake out on conditioning while abroad as it will encourage split ends and fading hair colour! We love Aussie Take the Heat Conditioner which works miracles by protecting your hair from the sun damaging rays. Containing jojoba seed oil the conditioner smells like holiday and is available at Tesco (€4.79/250mls)

Protect!

The last thing we want on a holiday is to look like Monica in Barbados. The humidity is not an excuse for out of control frizz! A victim of Tina Turner hair myself, Some like it Hot Serum from Bed Head really did the trick at taming the mane and protecting my hair colour. This was definitely my favourite holiday product. I picked up my bottle at TK Maxx but alternatively it is available at www.flair.ie (€6.95/100mls).

Curl!

Holiday is the perfect time for us to embrace our curls because it really isn’t worth fiddling around with hair straighteners in 30 degree heat! Curl Crème from the Boots Essential range is refreshing, affordable and worked wonders at creating soft waves perfect for a humid night out on the town! (€3.95/250mls)

Treat!

Upon your dreary touchdown to Ireland you should really treat your hair to some extra pampering. Lush Rehab and Retread Shampoo and Conditioner really put the life back into post-holiday hair. Ingredients include seaweed, lanolin, soya milk, olive, jojoba and avocado oils, fresh melon juice and yoghurt.  The treatments are approximately €6.50 each and available at Lush Cosmetic Stores.
