The one rule to keep in mind when ‘baking’ your makeup

Have you tried 'baking' yet?

Have you tried ‘baking’ your makeup?

It’s a very popular makeup trick that basically involves applying your foundation and then, allowing your powder to set on your face for about ten minutes before dusting it off.

While this sounds like the best way to prevent an oily T-zone halfway through the day, one expert says you need to be careful about when you’re choosing to ‘bake’ your makeup.

Fred Letailleur is a European makeup artist for YSL Beauty and he warns that although baking is great for setting makeup, it can also dry out skin and emphasise fine lines.

Speaking to Byrdie, Fred explained that while baking is the ideal way to lock your base in place all night when you’re out on the town, it’s not really something he would recommend for day-to-day makeup.

“It is a great trend that sets the foundation, however it also dries up and suffocates the skin in the process which enhances fine lines”.

Fred continued:

“It can lead to a loss of control of the final result and feel heavy on the skin”.

Heidi Hamoud, an Australian MUA and beauty vlogger, recorded the below YouTube video which explains how to “bake” and it currently has 4,293,114 views.
