Makeup artist warns against wearing these makeup products when exercising

TikTok is filled with beauty lovers showing off their gym-proof makeup routines at the moment

Like most other trends on the app, some need to be approached with care and while there is absolutely nothing wrong with wearing makeup to the gym, its effects on our skin can be problematic.

There are over 56.7 million posts on “workout makeup” and 20 million on “Pilates makeup,” as the trend continues to explode online.

And it’s not just TikTok that’s obsessed, Google searches for “how to make makeup sweat-proof” have jumped by 70% in the past month, according to Revolution Beauty

With the trend on the rise, pro makeup artist Mel Trierweiler has shared exactly what to avoid.

If you want your makeup to last through a workout and you want to avoid clogging your pores, some products are best left out of your gym bag.

Mel advises against using heavy foundations, full-coverage concealers, and powders, as they can clog pores and mix with sweat, leading to irritation and breakouts.

Regular mascaras should also be avoided since they’re likely to smudge and cause eye irritation.

She also recommends staying away from products with heavy oils, alcohol, and silicone, as these can trap sweat and cause breakouts.

Once the workout is over, properly removing any cosmetics you are wearing is just as important as applying it correctly.

Mel recommends starting with a deep cleanse and using a gentle cleansing balm to get rid of sweat, makeup, and dirt without stripping the skin.

After cleansing, it’s essential to restore moisture with a nourishing moisturiser – and any other skincare essentials you use.
