Joan Smalls just gave a ‘beauty tip’ that we pray you never follow

Bad move, Joan.

Sorry, what?

In a recent interview with US Weekly, Joan Smalls spoke about her beauty routine and top tips when it comes to makeup and skincare. But one “tip” that had us thinking WTF multiplied by 100,  was when she explained how she contours.

Speaking to the publication, the model said she applies SPF like contour to her cheekbones and nose. Leaving some parts of her face covered from the sun and others exposed with no SPF, she said: “It makes the skin lighter because you’re not tanning as much there.”

So, basically, Joan is using the harmful UV rays from the sun to strategically darken some areas of her face in a bid to make it look like contour. NOT OK.

Aside from the fact that the sun’s rays can age your skin dramatically, they’re also harmful and not wearing SPF and exposing your skin to these rays, puts you at a higher risk of getting skin cancer.

According to The Irish Cancer Society, “skin cancer is the most common cancer in Ireland.”

“Most cases are caused by UV rays from the sun.”

And it’s not just in direct sunlight you should be wearing SPF, top beauty and makeup experts recommend wearing SPF every single day as it doesn’t need to be direct sunshine for it to be doing damage to your skin.

So, please do not be swayed by Joan’s bonkers advice. Never put your skin in danger for a beauty fad, ever.
