How To Get Ready and Get Out the Door

Have you ever found yourself with only half an hour in which to get ready for a night out? These handy tips might make the next time a little less traumatic.

Rebecca McKnight

It’s Saturday evening and you’re sitting watching television in a hoodie and tracksuit bottoms with no makeup on. Then you get the telephone call inviting you out for the night and you have to get ready in half an hour.

The most important thing is that you don’t panic. The second most important thing is that your read these tips on how to cut down you ‘getting ready’ time.

Swap washing your hair for… an up hairstyle

Doing your hair takes up more time than anything else and you don’t have time to wash it never mind drying and styling it. So skip out the first two steps and just style it. Go for a glamorous up hairstyle that is quick and effective like a high ponytail or bun. If your hair is really greasy, use dry shampoo.

Swap tanning for… shimmer

Rather than rushing a tan and ending up with blotchy arms and streaky legs, forget about it and opt for a shimmer instead. It will make your skin glow and takes all of two seconds to apply. You could even wear flesh-coloured tights if you’re particularly conscious about looking too pale or opt for a different outfit.

Swap shaving for… leggings or jeans

The last thing you want is a rash or cuts from trying to shave in a rush. As with the tan, alter your outfit to accommodate your lack of time. Rather than going bare-legged, wear tights or dressy jeans. It is Ireland after all, it’s not like you’re going to be roasted or look odd.

Swap your bathroom mirror for… the car mirror

Do your makeup on your way to your destination (not if you’re driving of course). Grab the essentials and apply them using the mirror of the sun visor in the car. If you don’t have a steady hand, wait and do your mascara when you arrive at the place. Check in with your friends before scooting off to the bathroom briefly to finish off your look.

Swap nail colour for… clear nail polish

While colour nail polish would probably finish off your outfit perfectly, clear polish will do just as well and better still, you only need one coat of it. Fire it on quickly, leave to dry for a couple of minutes and off you go.

So if you get that call tonight, use these simple tricks and you should just about make it on time. Good luck!
