Here’s how you master the PERFECT messy ponytail

The messy ponytail has pretty much been my go-to hair style for the past decade – don't judge. 

Not only is it all sorts of practical (as in no-one will know you didn't have time to wash your hair – again), but it can also, if done right, look pretty darn amazing. Just look at Gigi. The problem with a messy ponytail, as so many of us have discovered, is that there is a very thin line between looking chic and looking like you just rolled out of bed. The secret according to celebrity hair stylist Renya Xydis, in order to get your messy ponytail to stay artfully messy all day you need dry shampoo. Yup – our old hero dry shampoo strikes again. Xydis recently told WhoWhatWear that the trick is to start off by working dry shampoo into the top of the ponytail and then spray over the entire ponytail with a fine mist of hairspray. Finish off by gently patting down the hair around your ponytail with your hairspray-soaked hands to tame any flyways or smooth down any broken pieces of hair. Voila – perfect messy ponytails, here we come.
