A girl never forgets her 1st mascara: a thank you to Great Lash on its 50th birthday

Growing up in the early 2000s there were two items from Maybelline that absolutely every girl had in her first makeup bag. They were Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse (always in the wrong shade of course) and Maybelline Great Lash mascara. I don't think there was a teen makeup bag growing up that was without but I had no idea just how long Great Lash has been helping makeup novices. This week Great Lash mascara turned the big 5-0 and honestly I had no idea it had been on the go since the 1970s. I don't know if it's because the green and pink tube just screams 1990s vibes or because the ads for it were everywhere when I was growing up (those maybe it's Maybelline ones live in my head rent free). Because Great Lash is celebrating such a milestone I decided to research some of the classic Maybelline ads and recreate one of their 1970s as a homage.   I have to say I never usually wear blue eyeshadow as I don't think it suits me but after doing recreating this look from the 1970s I may be converted. Different items of makeup always bring me back to a certain place and time in my life. I don't know how many different old lip-glosses and eyeshadows I have stashed in my drawer that I have from my pre-teen and teenage years. I will never wear them again as they are incredibly old, but I also can't part with them. Makeup can also remind us a lot of other people in our lives, especially those who have passed away. I keep a tube of lipstick that my grandmother had owned in my jewellery box. Of course Great Lash was one of the items so until the end of time whenever I look at my Debs and many other teen photos I'll think of it.
