Getting Married? You Need To Try This Anti-Contouring Beauty Trick

Thought contouring was the be-all and end-all of wedding makeup? Think again!

The contouring craze has spawned hundreds of thousands of makeup tutorials and specialised products, but now there is a new trick on the block that we predict will take the wedding season by storm.

Contouring is a firm favourite for cosmetic queens who love the sculpted “done” look, but for those who feel it is a tad intimidating or too much, this anti-contour trick could be the answer.

It’s called “strobing” and where contouring is all about shading and darkening, strobing is all about brightening and highlighting.

Kim Kardashian is the queen of contouring.

Contouring is loved for its transformative powers with people creating the illusion of higher cheekbones, slimmer noses and basically altering the appearance of their bone structure.

Alternatively, strobing is all about accentuating your natural beauty.

“It’s about using reflection on high planes and points of the face that catch the light to create spotlit areas,” Alex Box, creative director of Illamasqua, told the London Evening Standard.

“It’s a much more forgiving way to bring focus and shape to the face.”

We think this technique would make for a stunning bridal look as it is fresh, natural and glowing.

Our top tips to achieve this look.

  • Be militant about your skincare regime. Highlighters will do just that – highlight any blemishes.
  • Dry-skinned ladies should opt for cream highlighters.
  • Oily-skinned ladies should favour luminising powders.
  • Apply the products sparingly on the areas of your face that naturally catch the light; like cheekbones, nose and cupids bow.
  • A general rule – cream highlighters work best UNDER foundation, powders are applied OVER foundation.

Now go forth and glow.
