Five things to note when you’re in a rush to do your makeup

Morning. Rush. Always.

Cathy Donohue

We’ve all been there.

That mad morning dash as you struggle to get yourself dressed and fed before you get out the door.

A perfectly made up face each day would be fab, but the truth is we love our beds far too much to dedicate time to that.

That said, there are a few essential beauty tips to help you fake it.

Check for tide marks

If there’s one giveaway that you scrambled out of bed with five minutes to go, it’s tide marks. Particularly along your jawline.

Another common fail is forgetting to extend your makeup along your neck and chest, to the neckline of your top. You don’t have to trawl on the foundation either, a light dusting of bronzer looks more natural and takes the pasty edge off.

Brow love

Brows frame your face and the perfect shape can alter your look completely.

When you’re in a hurry, you need a quick and easy brow tool. Enter Benefit Goof Proof Pencil, €26. This is the business for anyone suffering from patchy hairs, it glides on and there are six shades to choose from.

To give the illusion of bigger eyes, extend the eyebrows (only slightly mind) using this nifty pencil.

Find a mascara you can’t manage without

Mascara is absolutely essential.

It opens your eyes instantly and defines them so you instantly look more awake, even before the coffee kicks in.

We’re currently obsessed with Urban Decay’s Perversion Mascara (€23). It lengthens and volumises and you can apply a couple of extra coats without the dreaded ‘clumpy’ effect.

Always remember concealer

Much like mascara, this is one step you can’t forego in the mornings.

Even if you don’t have time to apply a full base, applying concealer under the eyes, around the nose and over any imperfections, will camouflage any problem areas.

NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer (€28) is a long-standing favourite that people return to again and again. Why?

It blurs imperfections and disguises fine lines. Not every concealer can do both and we love a product with a dual function.

Have one emergency product in your handbag

Some women carry their makeup bags in their bags, others already have the kitchen sink in there. If you can’t be bothered lugging your personal product haul around on a daily basis, keep one emergency product in your bag.

One recommendation is Bobbi Brown’s Foundation Stick, (€37.50). Expensive yes, but this one isn’t a cult classic for nothing. It’s creamy, weightless, and contains skin-correcting pigments. The ideal way to touch up on the go as you can just dab it on where you need it.
