All this month we’ve paired up with L’Oréal Paris to give away some fantastic prizes!

We’re asking Her.ie readers to nominate a special lady in their life to win some fantastic L’Oréal Paris goodies, and a pair of Beauty Bootcamp tickets so you can both have some fun and a girls day out.

This week, Louth lady Fiona Garland nominated her best pal Calina O’Shea, here’s what she had to say…

“Calina and I met when we were very little, in our local speech & drama classes – I was 3 and she was 4! We went to the same primary and secondary schools together, often getting the same bus to school together. And yet, we weren’t friends!

“From an early age I just didn’t like her – I couldn’t put my finger on it. I recall one day in school (circa age 10/11) she made a comment that I had split ends and I instantly decided she was my worst enemy!?In my first year of university we ended up living in the same house together. On our first day in the house together, within an hour, I knew I had a friend for life – I suddenly understood that I had disliked her for years because I was threatened by her wonderfulness, she is such a strong life force and radiates true natural beauty which left me feeling insecure about myself as a child & teenager. But as an adult I embraced her and her fabulousness!

“On that first day we talked about everything – I owned up about how I’d been feeling for years, I told her about her comment on my split ends – she laughed and laughed, she said she still wasn’t quite sure what split ends were so definitely didn’t know as a child!

“Since that day we’ve developed an amazing bond. I can talk to her about anything – even when she’s the one driving me nuts, we still get it all out in the open and sort it (I must admit, this is an extremely rare occasion!). And when it’s me that’s driving her nuts, she is so patient with me – I really can’t explain how lucky I am to have her in my life.

“I was honoured to be one of her bridesmaids at her wedding, and am to be godmother to her newest edition to her family.

“Calina is an incredible woman. Not only is she a Godsend as a friend, she is also a loving mother and wife. She has four beautiful children – Ryan age 6, Chloe age 5, Sophie age 3, and Abbie (my goddaughter) age 3 weeks! When I am around her and see all the goodness in her kind heart I can’t even begin to understand how someone this wonderful ever left me feeling insecure about myself.

“She clearly has her hands full with such a young family and yet she is there for me whenever I need it – she takes the time to reply to my time-wasting text messages and will organise a babysitter if her husband isn’t about just so we can meet for a drink. Even with her busy life she makes time for me in it.?Without further ado, I would like to nominate Calina O’Shea (nee Cunningham) – my show stopping friend – because, ladies and gents, she’s worth it!”
