We don’t know about you, but at the beginning of every new fashion season, we just can’t wait to see the beauty trends will be influencing our make-up bag for the coming weeks.
Sometimes we are pleasantly surprised (everyone loves a good natural look), sometimes we are inspired (laser-cut paper eyelashes? Holla!) and sometimes? Eh…well sometimes we’re just plain shocked and appalled.
While Autumn/Winter 2012 has some very promising make-up trends, it also has some downright frightening ones too.
Ladies, here are the catwalk looks that we will NOT be trying this season. Be warned, some of them are scary…very scary…
Chanel’s Big Bejewelled Brows: There are two things that we will never understand in this world: quantum physics and big, embellished eyebrows. Now, sometimes big eyebrows can be completely on trend, and, we have to admit that the Scouse brow actually does suit some people. However, replacing your eyebrows with jewels and sequins? Ke$ha may get it, but we certainly don’t.
At Chanel’s A/W 2012 catwalk show, it wasn’t just the clothes that were turning heads. Oh no. The model’s eyebrows were causing just as much of a stir. Why? Well basically their natural eyebrows had been replaced with a host of sequins, sparkles and obsidian gemstones.
The result? A look that can only be described as crazy. Hmm…somehow we don’t think this is a trend that women will be embracing. Can you imagine rolling up to work with a pair of bedazzled eyebrows taking over your forehead? The horror, the horror…
Louis Vuitton’s Morning-After Eyes: Dear Louis Vuitton, why on earth would any woman want to look like she has just crawled out of bed after a heavy night on the tiles? We’re all for the smudged rock-chick-eyeliner-look, but we draw the line at severe panda eyes.
Generally the main aim of make-up is to have us looking fresh, bright and like we’ve gotten our recommended eight hours – not to make us look like we’ve just crawled out of a ditch after a long night.
Anna Sui’s Graphic Eyes: Graphic eyes are great in theory, but not so much in practice. No matter what kind of products you use, they will smudge a lot. However, Anna Sui is trying to bring them back onto the beauty radar.
Ladies, could you honestly see yourself wearing a bold graphic eye as you go about your daily business?
This is one trend that might (and we stress the word might here) work on a night out – especially if you’re heading to a sixties themed party. But during the hours of daylight? Well it’s probably best to stick to your usual make-up style. Hey, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
Calvin Klein’s Pale and Interesting Look: When celebs like Keira Knightly and Nicola Roberts burst onto the scene, the beauty world finally started to embrace the pallid skin-tone (great news for those of us who are rocking the milk bottle look, right?).
That being said, the Pale and Interesting make-up trend which was debuted on Calvin Klein’s A/W 2012 catwalk looks less ‘Keira’ and more ‘living dead.’
Embracing your sallow skin is awesome, but for those of us who are already quite pale, why would we want to go even paler?
We think we’ll be keeping our blusher this season – the last thing we want is to be able to give Edward Cullen a run for his money in the deathly-pale stakes.
