Momentous news - the American Olympics squad now numbers more women than men.  This is the first time that this has happened in the history of the US Olympic team.

The squad, which consists of 261 male and 269 female competitors, is expected to occupy one of the top spots in the medal tables at the London Olympics, which start this month.

The team, who get to wear some rather snazzy Ralph Lauren-designed kit, won 110 medals at the last Olympics in Beijing.

The youngest and oldest American Olympic delegates are also women - 15 year old swimmer Katie Ledecky and 54 year old equestrian Karen O'Connor will both be trying their best for the gold in London.
