Thanks Miley & Co. Thanks a lot.
‘Twerking’ and ‘selfies’ are here to stay it seems, as both terms are amongst the new words added to the Oxford English Dictionary.
Oxford Dictionaries Online explained that the word, referring to the ass-shaking moves you most likely saw from Miley at the VMAs, had become “increasingly visible” in the past year.
Katherine Connor Martin from Oxford Dictionaries said has existed in US hip hop culture two decades, adding; "By last year, it had generated enough currency to be added to our new words watch list, and by this spring, we had enough evidence of usage frequency in a breadth of sources to consider adding it to our dictionaries of current English.”

Fans of dodgy self-portraits in bathroom mirrors can also delight in the news that ‘selfie’ made the cut too, as part of the dictionary's quarterly update.
Around 1000 new entries are added to Oxford Dictionaries Online every year. So now if anyone asks you what Twerking means, you can provide them with the dictionary definition.
The twerk, v.: dance to popular music in a sexually provocative manner involving thrusting hip movements and a low, squatting stance.’
Quite.
