Hilary Mantel has made history by becoming the first ever women to win the coveted Man Booker Prize twice.

The English author was awarded the prize for the second instalment of her Thomas Cromwell trilogy entitled Bring Up The Bodies.

Back in 2009 the first novel of the series, Wolf Hall, also saw off strong competition and earned her the title for the first time in her career.

The English author has taken the prize home for a second time this year.

Speaking at this year’s event, Hilary said: “You wait 20 years for a Booker Prize and two come along at once… I know how privileged and lucky I am to be standing here tonight. I regard this as an act of faith and a vote of confidence.”

But the author has no time to sit back and relax. She is already looking forward to the third book of the series which focuses on the advisor of King Henry VIII. It is due to be called The Mirror and the Light. At this rate, we wouldn’t be surprised if it bagged her a third!

As well as the fame that comes from winning the Man Booker Prize, Hilary will also enjoy the fortune. She will receive the equivalent of just over €60,000 for taking the title plus a bonus for being shortlisted.
