This wedding day alternative hack could save the day

Laura Holland

Welcome to The Bride Files – covering all things related to weddings as Laura prepares for her big day.

When you’re planning your wedding it’s always fun to try and do things yourself. DIY weddings are all the rage these days and they have two major benefits, you get to put your own personal stamp on the day and save money while you’re at it.

However, with all the will in the world it doesn’t always work out. This wedding day hack will hopefully come in handy when you need it most.

In a DIY wedding, couples often make quirky and helpful signs for their guests. Whether it’s an invitation to sign a guestbook or pointing them in the direction of the toilets it’s fun to dot them around the venue.

One major trend at the moment are chalkboard signs. The personalised variety that you can buy online can sometimes be quite expensive so a lot of brides decide to make their own, but working with chalk can be a nightmare. It is guaranteed to smudge and you can forget about leaving it outside because chances are it will rain at some point in the day.

Wedding craft designer Bríd Byrne, from B Crafty Wooden Letters, has offered some great advice to brides-to-be. She has suggested to use chalk marker instead of chalk. It’s longer lasting and cleaner.

You can also pick up the chalkboards or slate, or even black PVC, for a reasonable price so you save money. They come in a lot of different colours so you’re not limited to a black chalkboard style.

The last thing you want is to create beautiful signs that no one can read so this hack will be a saviour.

Hope this helps!
