Céline Dion’s mother Thérèse has passed away aged 92

She was affectionately known as ‘Maman Dion’.

Thérèse Dion, Céline Dion’s mother, has passed away a the age of 92.

The performer confirmed the heartbreaking news in a social media post on Friday, confirming that she would dedicate that night’s show to her late mum.

“Maman, nous t’aimons tellement… Nous te dédions le spectacle de ce soir et je chanterai pour toi avec tout mon coeur. Love, Céline xx,” she wrote in French, before adding the English translation:
“Maman, we love you so much…We dedicate tonight’s show to you and I’ll sing to you with all my heart. Love, Céline xx…”

Quebec Premier Francois Legault added on Twitter that the loss of Maman Dion had been felt by the entire province, as he sent his condolences to the Dion family.

He also paid tribute to Thérèse, calling her a “remarkable, generous and loving” woman who “devoted her whole life to well being her family.”

“Quebec is mourning the passing of Maman Dion today. Thérèse Dion has a special place in our hearts – she was an icon in her own right & a generous philanthropist,” Prime Minister Justin Trudeau added.”My thoughts are with @celinedion and her entire family during this difficult time.

Thérèse was a TV personality in Canada, and hosted her own show in the early 00’s.  In 2006, she founded the Foundation Maman Dion, which supports the education of children from disadvantaged backgrounds.
